3 Reasons why You must Go to La Creperie Key West

Tucked off in the heart of Old Town is Petronia Street.  Here you will find La Creperie Key West (300 Petronia Street).  This place offers many wonderful food items and a quiet location to enjoy breakfast and lunch.  But we think the three reasons you need to go are:

1. The crepes and galettes

La Creperie knows how to make crepes.  They are light and oh so yummy.  Try them with fresh fruit or ice cream.  The La Key Lime offers you an opportunity to add Key Lime Rum (locally made) …. who could pass that up?  On our first trip we learned about galettes.  Think of these as savory crepes.  The batter is totally different.

Crepe batter is made with flour while galettes are made with buckwheat.  Buckwheat is not really wheat, rather its a plant with white or pink flowers and black fruits.  It originated from Asia and was brought to France during the Twelfth Century.  Originally, it was considered peasant food, but because of a storm in Brittany the royal family was introduced to these wonderful galettes and it became a staple through out France.

They offer galettes made with salmon, bacon, ham and fresh vegetables.  Just reading the menu will make your mouth water.

2. The Location

Pertronia Street is tucked into the heart of Old Town.  It has a real neighborhood feel.  Here is where you will find Blue Heaven and of course, across the street, La Creperie Key West.  The wrap around porch offers outdoor dining on a quiet street.  Sit and sip your morning coffee and enjoy a fresh croissant while watch people watching.

Wander through the neighborhood and you get a sense of home and history.  Across the street is this mural… it tells the story of those would lived and made Key West home.  Take time to say hello and learn about who they were … and are.  Let me know if you see Mr. Chapman… he really is the heart and soul of this neighborhood.

3. The Wine Bar

After breakfast and lunch has been served,  La Creperie turns into Vivez-Joyeux.  A wonderful wine bar with tasty cheeses and snacks.  Sit and enjoy a glass of natural wine.  What is natural wine?  It’s wine bottled with little or no sulfur – or as their website says…. it’s authentic wine.

Order wine by the glass or enjoy a flight.  How about three shades of white…. or red… or French?   The experienced staff can help you pick the perfect pre-dinner drink and snack before heading off for sunset.

Vivez Joyeux means to Live Joyfully… in reality, isn’t that why we come to Key West?  To live a full and joyful life?
