In case you wanted to know a little bit about Hennessy.  Hennessy is a cognac founded by Irishman Richard Hennessy in 1765.  Also, cognac is a type of brandy, and brandy is produced by distilling wine.  I share in case you need trivia to share while enjoying one of these Hennessy drink recipes.

Sweet Tea

What makes summertime great?  Sweet Tea of course.  Instead of mixing up a regular batch of sweet tea, try this adult version.

  • 1 1/2 oz Hennessy
  • 1/2 oz Grand Marnier
  • 2 oz iced tea; sweetened
  • 1/2 fresh lemon juice

All of the ingredients into a shaker and shake over ice.  Serve in an ice-filled glass with a lemon slice.  To save a step I used sweetened tea, but if you only have unsweetened ice tea then add 1 oz of simple syrup.

Mango Lemonade

  • 1 1/2 oz Hennessy
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz mango puree
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • Soda water

Mix all of the ingredients; except the soda water in a shaker and shake over ice. Pour into a glass filled with ice and top off with soda water.

Between the Sheets

  • 1 oz Hennessy
  • 1 oz light rum
  • 1 oz Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice

Add all ingredients to a shaker and shake over ice.  Pour into a glass filled with ice.

Berry Deluxe

  • 1 1/2 oz Hennessy
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1/4 oz grenadine
  • 1/2 oz raspberry puree
  • 1/2 oz pineapple juice
  • 3 oz champagne

In a shaker add all ingredients except for the champagne.  Shake over ice and pour into glass filled with ice.  Top off with the champagne.

Strawberry Hennessy

  • 2 oz Hennessy VS or Black
  • 4 oz champagne
  • 2 oz Strawberry syrup
  • Garnish with fresh strawberries and lemon

In a glass filled with ice, add fresh strawberry slices. Then pour in your Hennessy cognac of choice, champagne, and strawberry syrup. Garish with lemon twist.

Hennessy Margarita

  • 2 cups ice
  • 2 oz Hennessy
  • 1.5 oz Tequila Silver or Mezcal
  • 1.5 oz Triple Sec
  • 3 oz Sweet and Sour Mix
  • Tajin to rim glass
  • Lime for garnish

Rim a tall glass with a lime slice and then dip into Tajin. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice cubes, add the Hennessy, tequila, triple sec, and sweet and sour mix. Shake well and then pour into the prepared glass. This takes your typical margarita to the next level!

Hennessy Slushies

I say slushies here because you can make both flavors and then layer them…. or stick with a more classic cocktail approach and serve separately. If you go the separate route, then this recipe makes a Yellow Hennessy and a Red Hennessy Slushie. Totally up to you.

Yellow Layer

  • 1.5 oz Hennessy
  • 1 oz Triple Sec
  • 2 oz orange juice
  • 1 oz pineapple juice

Red Layer

In a blender, filled with ice, combine the ingredients for the yellow layer. Blend until smooth. Pour this into a pitcher (unless you have a second blender… then we need to talk… and probably be friends!). Rinse out the blender container and then fill with ice and add the red layer ingredients. Blend until smooth.

Pour into a glass, alternating the colors. Garish with an orange slice and cherry. Feeling extra festive? Then take a miniature Hennessy Bottle and insert into the drink. Be careful… this simple drink will pack a punch!

French Connection

  • 1 oz Hennessy VS
  • .5 oz Grand Marnier (orange liqueur)

Combine ingredients in cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and pour into a shot glass.

Ginger Cocktail

Looking for classic cocktails? This one offers a complex flavor with just two ingredients.

  • 1.5 oz Hennessy VS
  • 3.5 oz Ginger Ale

Pour the Hennessy into a highball glass. Add ice cubes and then top with ginger a. Garnish with a lime wheel or fresh slices of ginger.

Hennessy – The Collection

I have noted a few different types of Hennessy in these best Hennessy cocktails. For a basic cocktail recipe, most bartenders go for the Hennessy V.S. (or Very Special). This version is aged in new oak barrels and has fruit notes. The flavor notes left on your palette are rich and creamy with a hint of vanilla. But, a newer version (created in 2009) is Hennessy Black. This is smooth and aged in old oak barrels. The flavor profile leans more on the citrus notes.

No matter which version you use, or which cocktail you start with… each of these offers a great way to spend a summer day or evening.
