Parrot Fish, Key West Aquarium

This is a true must stop.  It was constructed during the Depression.  The concrete used to make the tanks and other parts of the structure was mixed with salt water since fresh water was so hard to find.  It opened in 1935 originally but has gone through several changes since then.

When originally opened it was the first in the country to have an open-air concept.  Since 1935 a roof has been added, but it still has an open feel.  Take the tour, which is part of your ticket price.  A tour lasts about 40 minutes.
