Frita’s Cuban Burgers

I love a great hamburger, and I will admit I crave them once in a while.  So, when we stumbled upon Frita’s Cuban Burgers at 425 Southard Street, I was excited.  I had never tried a Cuban burger and was looking forward to the chance.

When we entered the place, the people were so friendly and welcoming.  They took the time to explain to us what things on the menu were; such as the arepas.  These tasty stuffed corn cakes are wonderful!

We ordered the arepas, a Frita Cubanito Sandwich and the Cuban Tacos.  They all were as tasty as the menu says they would be.  It was a very warm afternoon, we are in Key West after all, so I tried a Homemade Milk Shake (Chocolate) and let me say I was not disappointed.

What makes a Frita Cubanito Sandwich different than a traditional hamburger?  Well, first of all, the patty is made from a mixture of beef and pork.  It is seasoned and when assembled the burger is topped with crispy potato strips and Frita sauce.  This is all sandwiched between two pieces of heavenly Cuban bread.  Have to admit Cuban bread is my weakness while in Key West.  A morning coffee and a piece of toasted Cuban bread with butter is my go to breakfast.

This place is off the beaten path and you have probably walked by it without a second look.  The outside grill is setup on the side of the building, but the space offers a very nice spot to stop, sit and enjoy a great meal.

While in Key West and wandering down Duval, take the time to visit Frita’s Cuban Burgers it is worth the trip!
