Geiger Key – The Perfect Place to Experience an Old Florida Fish Camp

I love finding the out of the way, off the beaten path places… and then sharing them with you.  Geiger Key is just this place.  If you have an opportunity to explore outside of Old Town.. do it!  You will be amazed at the places you will find.

About 30 minutes from Old Town, is this hidden gem.  Heading up A1A, you will turn off onto Boca Chica Road in Big Coppitt Key and then head on down to Geiger Road.  There, at the end, you will find Geiger Key.  This is where you step back into time and really see “an old Florida Fish Camp.  The way the Keys used to be.”

The view

The first thing that catches you, is the view.  You walk out onto the edge and it truly is mesmerizing.  Among the mangroves is this beautiful blue clear water.  Another thing that you notice is how quiet it is.  We immediately pulled up a seat at one of the picnic tables and settled in for a cocktail and some food… and the view.

While in Key West, especially Old Town, you pick up on the tropical vibe, but you really do miss the view.  Geiger Key draws you right back into paradise.  You remember that you are in the Keys…. no other place like it.  Time seems to slow down and stress just falls away.

The drinks

Well, of course, we had to try a few, and let me tell you they make a great cocktail.  The beer is cold too.

Our drink choice?  Geiger Punch… anytime a place say “signature” of course it has to be tried.  But, I don’t think you could go wrong with any on the list.

The food

The food, the glorious food.  It is worth the trip for the fish fingers alone.  The menu offers everything from snacks to burgers to seafood.  On the weekend, be sure to try breakfast too.

The Fish Camp

Part of the attraction of Geiger Key is the restaurant but another part is the RV part.  Quiet, peaceful and one of the best places to spend the night.  If you are camping in the Keys, add this place as one of your must stay places.  Not, camping, but enjoy being on the water?  Rent a kayak or take an eco tour.  Enjoy the views of Geiger Key from the water.

Overall, well worth the drive.  The view, the drinks, the food… a great day spent in the Keys!
